Welcome to 3 Generations Wellness
Why I write, who I am, and what you can expect as a subscriber.
Welcome!
This is where we rethink everything we’ve been taught (or in most cases NOT taught) about our menstrual cycles, contraception, fertility and wellbeing, in this wild, beautiful and sometimes heart-wrenching world.
I write about fertility, contraception and women’s health from my perspective as a certified herbalist, Fertility Awareness Method Coach, and public health researcher and consultant. I also write from my personal experience as one woman trying to figure these things out for myself.
My core belief and reason for writing is I believe we should know ALL the choices when it comes to our fertility, contraception, and menstrual cycles.
Unfortunately that is not the case today. We are inundated with pharmaceutical solutions, while safe and effective natural options are buried or dismissed.
Thus I write to:
Share information about natural options
Advocate for a different status quo where we are not ONLY told about pharm options, and more agency around health is the norm
And because part of my journey is finding and sharing my own stories and those of the ones who came before me.
A taste of ME.
I’ve been on a journey to make sense of my reproductive health, including dissatisfaction with contraception options, a family lineage that includes many gifts and shadows too–including a history of reproductive cancer, and most recently, a quest to regain my fertility.
I’m a certified herbalist, Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) coach, and public health professional, schooled in reading the research.
I also doubt I’d be here, writing on Substack, without the death of my beautiful, brave and wise mom. She was woman ahead of her time in so many ways. A holistic health practitioner through the 90s til her death in 2017.
The name 3 Generations Wellness is in recognition of her, and my darling, beloved Granny.
These women raised me and loved me, and taught me so much about being fierce, bold, and kind. They each survived and broke harmful cycles passed down through generations—cycles around sexual violence, reproductive health, and relationships.
Yet, when my mom died, through the grief and disbelief, there was also fear.
Fear, because I recognized there was more work to do, and that despite all the progress my mom made, despite her devoted protection to me, the work was not over. There were pieces of my own story and those before that I needed to understand and heal.
Because of the specifics in my lineage, this has led me down a path to better understand and support reproductive health and relearn how to be in romantic relationships.
What I have learned has made me passionate about changing the narrative and ensuring we know ALL the choices when it comes to our fertility, contraception and menstrual cycles.
What else to know about me—
I live in the beautiful Missoula, Montana. I’m originally from New York, an hour West of NYC. I’ve lived in Boston, DC, Cairo, Chicago, South Korea, Baltimore, Boulder, and Denver. It feels oh so good to finally be growing roots in one place.
I have a problem with growing big wild herbs that dominate the veggies doing their best to hold their own in my south-facing garden.
I’m married to the most incredible man. He’s a serial entrepreneur who spends the majority of his time coaching around alcohol-free living. (15+ years sober!)
This work has been a budding passion the last few years. I am slowly devoting more time to it.
Nonprofit and public health consulting work is currently my main source of income, which means sometimes I have more or less time to be here.
I’m the oldest of 4 siblings, 7 if you count my step-siblings, at one time 10, if you count my other, ex-step siblings. Wooh it’s a lot. I don’t know most of them as adults :(
What I’ve got planned for YOU.
My intention is to share regular newsletters and post frequent, shorter notes. I am looking for community and want to get to know you, and your writing if you write here.
Schedule: I’m currently publishing every other Thursday.
Free: The majority of my work will remain free because my mission is to spread stories and information so we all have more agency around our repro health choices.
Paid: I will be paywalling content when it feels especially tender and personal. I also plan to add more in-depth resources and learning material for those who want an accessible way to learn FAM for contraception, pregnancy or health monitoring.
Thank you so, so much for being here. If you’re a new subscriber, would you drop a line and introduce yourself, pretty please?
